Merepark Medical Centre has achieved the highest GOLD+ Standard in the 2020 Green Impact for Health Awards

Merepark Medical Centre acknowledges the climate emergency threatening population health and commits to reducing its carbon emissions.  We aim to behave and practice in a way that respects people and the planet.  We are committed to improving our environmental performance and enhancing the services we offer to Alsager.

Green Impact is an international United Nations award-winning programme designed to support environmentally and socially sustainable practice within organisations.  We are delighted to be one of the 7 of 768 organisations to achieve the Gold+ award.

The sustainability accreditation scheme was developed for General Practice by the National Union of Students, General Practitioners, trainees and medical students, with support from The Royal College of General Practitioners, The University of Bristol and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare.

General Practices from across the UK demonstrate how they are working in an environmentally and economically sustainable way. The successful practices are recognised with Gold, Silver or Bronze awards.
The Merepark team have always been enviro-conscious, but this initiative provided the focus for further improvements and the introduction of new services, for example:
  • Encouraging social prescribing
  • Referring patients at risk of fuel poverty for support and advice
  • Reducing practice waste
  • Using greener suppliers
  • Converting to LED lighting
  • Facilitating inhaler recycling
  • Encouraging learning about Climate Change and Health

Merepark would like to say a special thank you to Kitty Price for leading this project, supported by Devlan Alkins.
